Blog 19: Source 4 A Search Complete?
After hours and hours of digging through useless and irrelevant articles that in no way, shape or form related to my topic. I believe I may have blindly stumbled upon something that can be used as my primary source. In an article titled "Lifelong friends at first sight", the author describes the value of friendship that can be placed above family bonds. This at first to most people would seem to be a very bold statement since sayings like “blood is thicker than water” suggests that family is always priority, but the author delivers some very good points. First he speaks of how his father always discouraged friendship over family bonds because of a war he was in as well as some bad friends from his lifetime. The author goes on to talk about one of his teachers encouraging that everyone get along and be open minded and that she kept her classroom like that all the time. By keeping the classroom this way there were few confrontations and everyone listened to each other. The author of the article is now a teacher and mentions a few good points raised by his own students. One of his students once said to him that friends "allow them to breathe", meaning that the young adults can escape the pressures of parental and social authority by turning to their friends. This allows the freedom to speak their mind and helps the friendship flourish. The author then mentions a phrase that a student scrawled on a desk that read "All I want is a different view." Friends have a way of offering new point of views on life and situations as well as many wonderful perspectives on life. I look forward to interpreting this article further and applying it to my thesis.

I had a really hard time finding articles too so it's not just you, but this article seems very interesting. I don't know if a group of students would actually sit down and listen to what everyone had to say but it would be nice.
ReplyDeleteI think this is an interesting thing to think about. They say that opposites attract, and this is a great reason to extend beyond relationships with your family. I think that having lots of friends around us with all different views allows us to refine what we believe and realize WHY we believe something, rather than simply saying what our parents say.
