Blog 35: CP Article

After reading two articles on common place, I chose to write about one that had to do with hip hop and how women are degraded to being sex icons in order to sell the music. It made a relevant stance on the subject that the music should not degrade women even though sex sells in our society. Some artists are putting out positive images about women and their disapproval about how it has changed to focusing on the degradation fo women. The music is suppose to be about the inspiration of events in an artist’s life and leave a way for listeners to relate, but with all the songs that are about sex it is difficult for people to connect to the music anymore. Just because a song has a catchy beat doesn't mean that people are relating to the song but more or less simply enjoy the rhythm instead of the message. Music in general has been losing its true purpose to be meaningful and focused almost exclusively on the fact that sex sells in order to increase their album sales. The artists that are putting out the positive messages are the ones that should be encourage keeping writing and improving the image of hip hop and women so that the music can be returned back to its original purpose of communicating and relating to its audience. Hopefully one day hip hop will be able to return back to its meaningful and original roots of allowing its listeners to relate to the feelings and situations that the artists are singing about.
